Sensation and Perception

Abstract

I believe that one of the most fascinating aspects of the human experience and the psychological discipline is sensation and perception, and the associated biological processes. In this talk, I will use applied examples and experiential demonstrations to highlight some aspects of the human sensory systems and how the brain integrates sensory information to form our perception of the world. What makes this area of psychology so fascinating is the stark individual differences that are evident within healthy and well-functioning populations, and the ways in which our brains can use short-cuts and can trick us. In this talk I will encourage audience participation to demonstrate some of my favourite illusions and sensory and perceptual processes.
